Christ’s Commission to the Church

How do you measure the value of your church?

I am always excited about anything that produces positive change in my life. Sometimes it is something that I read or something that someone says to me or an experience that I go through. Whatever it is I know that the Holy Spirit has used it to make me a little more into the person that God wants me to be. Sometimes change is difficult but when it is positive change it is always good.

It is my prayer that as we have worked through the previous four videos and as you view this one now, they will change your perspective on your church. We have considered the question of how we measure the value of our church. It is my hope that these videos have challenged you to look at your church a little differently than perhaps you were looking at it before.

What was the measuring stick that you used on your church prior to watching this set of videos? How has that changed?

We can see the bigger picture

One of the advantages of being on this side of the cross is that we know the fullness of  God’s mission in a way that people in the Old Testament did not comprehend. We now know that God is fulfilling His mission through a worldwide body of believers called the church. He has chosen your church to be part of that mission.

  1. How do you react to the fact that you and your church are part of God’s mission in the world?
  2. How does the fact that you are on mission affect your understanding of the value of your church?

Test Yourself

What are the four truths of your church that come out of the passage in Ephesians 5?

Answer

The church is loved by Christ, cared for by Christ, redeemed by Christ, and sent on mission by Christ.
