Christ and the Church

How do you measure the value of your church?

For the past fifty years or more people in small churches have been told that the true  measure of a church’s value is the number of people that attend and the programs that  the church is able to offer. The question must be asked whether this is a valid  measuring stick for churches to use. Would your church have any more value if was  twice the size that it is now?

In this video we will look at the context of an illustration that Paul used to describe the  value of a church. Then in the next four videos we will look at how this illustration plays  out as Paul expands on it.

What is your measuring stick by which you currently determine your church’s value?  What part does size play in how you regard your church? Keep those questions in mind  as you watch the video.

What Really Counts?

When we measure our church by externals such as numbers and programs, we lose  sight of what really counts. The measure of a church is always the relationship between  Christ and his church.

  1. What in your thinking is the biggest problem that comes from measuring a  church’s value by external measurements?

2. Have you ever questioned the value of your church because of its size?
