- Given that believers of virtually every Christian tradition worldwide have received the Pentecostal experience of Spirit baptism, what do you believe remains the distinctive mark of classical Pentecostalism as such?
- Although classical Pentecostalism first gained a foothold primarily among the poor and marginalized, the charismatic movement began largely among ordinated clergy, students, and academics – the educated class. Why do you believe the classical Pentecostal and charismatic movement’s roots are so strikingly different, on this point?

I personally don’t believe that Baptism in the Spirit is necessarily the distinctive that it once was, no, but that is not to say that I don’t believe it to be a distinctive at all. I think that the emphasis is still there, and that emphasis is what makes it a Pentecostal distinctive rather than just the phenomenon itself.
I think that the difference in origin is largely related to the social issues that were present in society at the time. Pentecostalism is very diverse in terms of the racial background and societal status of its followers, and in the early 1900s there was still a lot of segregation and overt prejudice going on.
