Jesus advised that those who fast anoint themselves and bathe and not give the appearance of fasting. A fast is not a public performance; rather, it is a private act of divine worship.

And yet, there is a special strength in corporate prayer and fasting. What is the difference between corporately practicing spiritual disciplines and fasting to be seen? Is there a difference? Where does the tension lie and how can we walk the line as a community of believers?

Reflect on these questions and answer in the discussion.

As a community of believers it is great to get to go on a journey together and individually – both for time alone with God and time corporately to pray. It was great reminder of doing this privately and among my group fasting.
