Practice the Daily Examen during the evening three times in the coming week. Use either the “Instructions for the Daily Examen by Mandy” or “A Guided Daily Examen Video by Reunion” (found in Further Resources).

Then respond to the following questions in paragraph form:

    1. After your times of examen, did you have a greater sense of self-awareness in your motivations? Your reactions?
    2. How did you notice the presence of God? Where did he reveal himself to you throughout your day, your thoughts and emotions, your actions, the actions of others?

Hearing from from God can help me become more self aware by revealing the positive character qualities within me that I want to practice daily, but also by revealing the negative character qualities that i exhibit, and to acknowledge and correct them and/or ask for forgiveness when needed.

Self examine has been a part of my daily practice for some time now. I became aware of this practice in the recovery process(The Daily Choice – overcoming life controlling issues) that I participated in and currently facilitate at my home church. This is a 12 Step process and step 4 Introduces the DCI – daily character Inspection . This process is strongly encouraged and helps make us aware of the areas that need attention. I have come to realize, over the years, that it is a life long process and practice and I encourage others to do the same.

Because of this practice I have become quick to notice God throughout my day, especially in the areas of speaking and reacting. In the past, I have been known to speak before I think , or pray about what I am about to say, and this has gotten me into trouble. I have the god given gift to be bold, however i have not always used this gift in a Godly loving manner . This is an area that I am currently working on. When I rely on his strength and authority the words come out in a loving and empathic manner and are usually received. However on my own I regularly mess up and have to promptly ask for forgiveness.

@Martyv thanks for this detailed response. I don’t think I had ever heard of the DCI before. This seems very similar to the Daily Examen that Mandy talks about in this lesson. Do you know if there is any connection between these two things?
