The Biblical Framework for Pentecost

What is Pentecost?

And what does it mean to be Pentecostal?

Pentecost is a foundational theological concept for the ACOP (obviously, since it is in the name!). But where does the concept of Pentecost come from? And what does it mean?

As you might expect, Pentecost is biblical. It has its roots in the Old Testament but found renewed meaning and importance in the New Testament, and has profound reverberating effects for all Christians and churches, today.

So, what exactly is the meaning? And why is Pentecost so important for us?

What does the biblical foundation of Pentecost have to do with today?

After the initial outpouring in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit continued to be poured out in chapters 4, 8, 10, 19, and all throughout the book of Acts, and the story of the early Christian church as we see it in the New Testament epistles, and in early church history.

Over the past 2000 years, the Holy Spirit continues to be poured out as the church grows and expands.

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions."

This reaffirms me by knowing the Holy Spirit not only worked in people 2000 years ago, but is still working and changing lives today. I struggle with some of the “gifts” that the Holy Spirit gives us. However, I firmly believe that He works in each of us differently. Just because I may not speak in tongues today, doesn’t mean He will not bless me with that ability tomorrow. All in His timing. I know He still uses me to better His kingdom in other ways, and for this I am thankful! I do not dismiss or ridicule this gift. I actually fall under the amazed and perplexed category. I’ve bear witness, and seeked council the thoes who do have this gifting.

If the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the feast of Pentecost in Acts 2 is a foundational concept to the ACOP, how might that affect your life as a member of the ACOP?

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 being a foundational concept to ACOP impacts my life as a member of ACOP as it requires me to be living by the Spirit. By operating in my spiritual gifts and by living in step with the Spirit, I am living out one of the foundational concepts of the organization I align myself with. Aligning yourself with an organization you are a member of is extremely important.
