What are your main takeaways from reading part 4 of “Communication in Mission”? Do you feel like you lean more toward a neutral utilitarian stance on technology or a deterministic stance? Defend your answer.

Some of my main takeaways from reading part of this book is how technology and missions is like a double edged sword. I see how there are good parts of using technology: it can bring people together from all over the world, it can be a powerful tool for evangelism, and it can help get information to people quickly. But, I also see how it can be a negative thing: it can pose a security risk with the development of AI, it can make people become more separated and lonely, and it can spread misinformation (specifically about the gospel). I have seen first hand how misinformation gets spread through social media and online means. I also have fears about in a RAN context how technology could impact the safety of workers there, as it is so easy to find information online.

Overall, I would say that my stance is that technology should be used, but not overused or depended on. There are many ways that technology can help in missions, but we also need to be aware of the ways it impacts ministry and our impact of others. Also for safety reasons, proper precautions need to be taken when using technology.
