The White Paper on Human Sexuality

It is important for the ACOP to develop a document on human sexuality as it is one of the most talked about and debated subjects of our time. As Wes mentioned, so much of human sexuality has become wrapped up in personal identity and as such become very wrapped up in the view and understanding of God. The clear but loving approach that is outlined in the white paper helps ACOP churches and members navigate a sensitive but important subject.

It is important for ACOP to write this paper because it is both pro-active and reactive to the shifts within our culture. The world is becoming more and more sexual permissive. Anything seems to be on the table. Therefore the church needs to re-affirm and recommit to its values in a clear way.
I appreciate also that this paper included the need for grace and for love. It would’ve been really easy to write a paper that concludes that homosexuality is negative and leave it there. Instead the full gospel of grace was presented here and I think that is beautiful

I think the significance of ACOP developing this document is in the Luther quote above. Confusion is rampant in the modern world, and it is very refreshing to see the ACOP actively and lovingly studying scripture and researching in order to create a document like the White Paper in order to inform people in a confusing time. It shows a love for people that actively seeks out the things that hinder love and does everything it can to present the most faithful and loving presentation of biblical truth.

Especially for Canada the issue of human sexuality has been very prominent in culture for the last 60 years. In recent years, its become even more of a struggle for churches to maintain strong standpoints on the issue, making it that much more of an important topic. We need to define what we believe and, even more so, know how to love others that come against what we believe. This is something Christians need to approach with grace, love and hope, so having a whitepaper on the issue helps us work around sensitive topics while keeping the best interest of the person in mind. if one thing matters from the sexual revolution, it is that everyone matters and is deserving of love. To me this screams the character of Jesus, meaning we need to be humble enough to show people they matter and they are loved.
