In Acts chapter 2 the church was being added to daily and they people devoted themselves to fellowship the breaking of bread, the apostles teaching and to prayer. The church in Acts chapter 13 didn’t negate these things, but with these qualities, had the gifts of the spirit freely flowing. The church of Antioc in Acts 13 was an apostolic center that was training, equipping and sending out Nation Shakers. The principle of multiplication was the model embraced by the church in Acts 13. If the apostles and leader of the church could train and Disciple people to be effective ministers of the gospel that were mature in their faith and then sent them out then, like seeds, they would produce exponentially more of a harvest than a handful of people doing all of the teaching, training and pastoring.

Respond in paragraph format to the following prompt(s):

    • How is the church in Antioch (Acts 13) different from the Church in Jerusalem (Acts 2)?
    • How have you experienced the principle of multiplication in your life?

In Acts 2, the Church has just been birthed! The believers are devoted to one another, filled with the Spirit, meeting together, supporting one another, praying together and breaking the bread of Communion together. In Acts 2 we see foundations of Church life.

In Acts 13, the Church is continuing to grow and expand upon its earlier foundations. We see the 5-fold ministry gifts at work. People are being trained and apprenticed. The Church is worshiping and waiting on Holy Spirit. There is fasting and prayer. The Antioch church is sending missionaries.

I have experienced the principle of multiplication on my life. I grew up on the farm so every season was based on the anticipation of multiplication. Our children have multiplied through marriage and having their own children. I am praying and seeking that there will also be multiplication in my ministry.

The church in Antioch was focused on training disciples to become disciple makers themselves and sent them out. As we move forward into new initiatives we need to ensure that we need to not only show people the truth of the gospel, but once they become a disciple themselves we need to teach them how to become a disciple maker themselves. When I think of multiplication, I think about when I worked in Youth ministry and I invited one of the street kids to come to church with me. The church welcomed this kid in. The next week we had two kids come. Then they asked if I could pick them up on the way to church. I stopped at a place they could get to and each week the number kept going up. Many of them became followers of Jesus and went on to share with others.
