The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

- In your opinion, does the doctrine of subsequence, as articulated in Pentecostalism, enjoy substantial support from the book of Acts? Do you believe Pentecostalism interprets these passages in a more consistent way than their evangelical counterparts?
- Unlike most evangelicals, Pentecostals (such as Stronstad, for example), insist that Luke and Paul ultimately mean different things when they speak of the baptism of the Spirit, and even the Holy Spirit's work in general. Do you find this position convincing?

I do believe that Pentecostals interpret these texts in a more consistent way, yes. Scripture is clear on the distinction between the Spirit received at conversion and the Baptism in the Spirit that occurs afterward. I do also subscribe to the understanding that Luke and Paul were referring to the Baptism in the Spirit in different contexts, but I disagree with the claim that Luke and Paul refer to the work of the Spirit differently in general. To me, the Scriptures are consistent in the way that both authors describe the work of the Holy Spirit because I don’t believe that the Spirit is a one-trick pony – I think that it’s accurate to say that the interpretation of the work of the Spirit may vary depending on individual perspectives, but we should not be putting God in a box, and that includes any piece of the Trinity.
