Results from Your Culture Test
Posted by ECO on July 21, 2023 at 8:43 pmPlease share your results/thoughts about the Culture Test. We know it feels a little abrupt at times, but it does provide a great introduction to the differences between the three major cultural types.

My results leaned heavily on guilt. This would be because I live in a Western culture, which is North America’s main motive. I’m not that surprised by the results, I knew already that our culture is typically centered around humanism, efficiency, career, status, etc. What’s interesting is if you asked the average person what they value most, their answer would probably be family, yet, their actions might not exactly show that to be true because that individual puts all their time and identity in career and making money. Of course, this is a vast generalization, but I think it’s true that how a culture behaves- rather than what people “say”- is a better indication of what they truly believe. The true value is revealed by action, not word.

My test results were 76.0% guilt, 24.0% shame, and 0.0% fear. I thought that this was an interesting thing to take while preparing to go into a new culture, and it made me ask questions about myself and my culture that I have not asked before. I think that it would be interesting to take this test again once I have been more immersed into another culture for a while and can more accurately answer questions about their culture.

My culture test results were 64% Guilt, 28% Shame, and 8% Fear. I find this to be accurate for the culture I live in. But what was interesting to me was while I was answering the questions, I felt like the answer would be different based on what generation within my culture I was answering for. So I can see, that even within my western guilt/shame culture, depending on the generation you live in, there can be small cultural differences within the same culture. I think these definitions definitely help people who are sharing the Gospel to understand what facets of it will resonate with different cultures and people groups.
