Ordination is a public recognition of a God-initiated reality. I liken ordination to baptism or marriage in the sense that it is a sacred ceremony where the community of God comes around someone to solemnize something that God has done in their life. It is a public affirmation of God’s call on a person’s life and should not be entered into lightly. Just as we take time for reflection and prayer before baptizing someone, we should also be listening for God’s leading before ordaining someone. We can recognize a lot in a person, but only God can look at the heart, and He should hold the first and the last word when it comes to the ordination process.

I think it is so important that a person is already fulfilling their ministry when they are ordained because it shows that they are already walking in the call that God has given and take that seriously. It is easy to have a lot of ideals and hopes and dreams for what we can do, but it is very different when we actually live that out and go through all the ups and downs and remain faithful to God and what He has asked us to do.

It is encouraging to know that ACOP recognizes the importance of the God’s call upon the life of the Ordained in the process of Ordaination. It is good to recognize the place of call of God. Fulfilling ministry is crucial when considering a candidate for Ordaination because it demonstrates the authenticity and validity of their call of God. According to Kenny Parker, A candidate’s active involvement in ministry showcases their passion, commitment, and effectiveness in serving God’s people. By actively fulfilling their ministry, a candidate proves that their call is not just a theoretical or emotional experience, but a tangible reality that is being lived out in their daily life and service.
Reflecting on the importance of Ordaination, it is clear that this process is not just about recognizing an individual’s calling, but also about affirming their readiness to serve in a leadership capacity within the Church or ministry. Ordaination is a significant milestone that requires careful consideration and preparation. It involves a deep sense of responsibility, accountability, and commitment to serving others. Ultimately, ordination is a powerful way to recognize and affirm the gifts and calling of individuals, and to empower them to serve God’s people with authority, wisdom, and compassion.

It’s important to see the fruit of someone fulfilling their ministry as part of the ordination process because many people could be called of God, but have refused to fully embrace and respond to that call. Obedience to God’s call should be a prerequisite to the recognition of ordination.
Pondering ordination at present, the biggest thing that comes to mind is just recognition and authority. As Jesus sent His disciples with authority, I would see ordination as a form of that sending, where authority is given to a trusted individual to go and do the work of the ministry with increased effectiveness.
