The simultaneous blessing and curse of my upbringing in a media-based culture is I know how it works. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking and analyzing what people respond to and why that is.
From these videos and lessons, I actually found them to be a little bit irrelevant to me. Strategies when reaching people through media will look completely different based on the people you meet. The one thing they acknowledged, which I think is really the cornerstone here, is that we should get to know the people we are trying to reach. If we know our crowd, if we are thinking about their age, culture, hobbies, habits, etc. then we can formulate different platforms to draw their attention. This is the foundation. -
This training excited me a lot since I love filmmaking! Here are a few main things that stuck out to me that I hadn’t thought of before with using media for ministry. Identifying end goal, audience, and messaging is important to know what story to tell, how to tell it and where to tell it. Having team of people to fill roles (media person, follow up, marketing/distributing) is important as we each have different skill sets and truthfully, I wouldn’t be able to be the only one following up with responses to my films if it reach lots of people. And the concept of telling strategic stories was new and good for me to hear! This is what I need lots of practice in and as I pray about the audience and messaging, God can help lead me in developing effective strategic stories that will reach people’s hearts and call them to action. Very excited about this training and to put it into practice!
