My habits are generally healthy in the context I am in now. I value rationing “treats,” not only for my health but also because things are better when they last longer. I believe applying that principle to other aspects of health will be a net positive for me.
I expect to do lots of exploring/outdoor activities at our overseas location because that is where the people are! For example, spending time with fishermen- in theory -will 1. improve my dietary health in the sense that I would get to eat locally caught fish, 2. improve my mental health because I’ll be learning skills and stimulating my brain with healthy things, and 3. exercise my body by getting things ready to go out.
Aside from that, I would spend a lot more time praying overseas than I do here, and I generally like to prayer walk, which is also good exercise. -
Some action steps that I should take to help me build better habits are to walk more, and to practice solitude and sabbath more regularly. I feel as though I already do a good job of meal prepping, and my husband and I already only go to the store once a week as much as possible. I would like to get in the habit of walking more, as I know that in my context walking will be happening often when we don’t have a car at first. Another habit for me would be getting used to practicing sabbath and solitude more often then I am. I believe that these practices will be essential for me as I head into the field.

With not having a vehicle, I hope that walking to places will become a norm that allows us to actively move on a daily. I don’t enjoy going to the gym to stare at a blank wall and lift heavy equipment but I love sports so I hope to be able to find local sports communities, join a neighbourhood sports team, or find sports clubs at my university I can join.
I love cooking but I’m also going to love eating out at local restaurants so I will have to learn how to balance healthy eating with cooking my own meals and choosing healthy foods when eating out. I also hope to be drinking quite a bit more water!
I have to get better at not staying up at night and practicing better sleep patterns.

For exercise, I’d like to build the habit of daily stretching and an at home workout about 3x a week. I’d also like to make it a habit to walk daily (although I’m sure that will already be embedded into life there).
For food, I would like to have a packable picnic type lunch with me when I am out of the house for a while. This way when I get hungry I can fuel myself well without having to eat only what’s available as street food. I also love fun beverages (lattes, sparkling water, smoothies etc.) and a fun beverage can be a good vessel to incorporate more vitamins!
For rest, I plan to schedule a day of sabbath rest every week, and make a habit of a night routine to prepare me for a good sleep.
