Leadership capacity is a great way to measure our current leadership abilities. It is also an effective launch pad for leadership growth, but I don’t think it is the only measure we should use in determining leadership abilities. Exposure and opportunity will affect one’s ability to lead, and I believe these will also affect one’s leadership capacity. Practice is another key aspect of leadership that helps increase our leadership capacity. God has given us all gifts that we must multiply by putting them into practice. I think leadership capacity can be a reflection of how much time and effort we have out into learning and applying leadership skills notwithstanding God’s ultimate plan for us.
I firmly believe that it is possible to increase my leadership capacity as God has already started increasing it. One of the biggest steps I have had to take is overcoming fear. As the Holy Spirit draws me out of my comfort zones, fears that have held me bound for too long are being exposed and dealt with in the name of Jesus. Taking leadership development courses like Peak2Peak have also helped to teach me invaluable leadership concepts which I am now learning to apply within the church.

Leadership capacity is a great metric to understand, especially when outlined as was it in the video. It is not a reflection of character, value, nor of significance. If it is taught as connected to character and worth, it unfortunately will be sought after and attempted to be developed in unhealthy ways. Being confident in your relationship with Jesus, finding significance and satisfaction in him and leading out of that will allow you to pursue the development of capacity in ways that are true to your call and that are safeguarded by that relational connection to the Holy Spirit, not out of ambition or brokenness. I am seeking to develop my own leadership capacity specifically through maintaining a heart posture of satisfaction in Christ and leading out of that, while learning as much as I can, letting my progress and process be known to those who can help, and trying to be as self aware as I can be.

I would be very pessimistic to think that I cannot develop my leadership skills. Everyone can, and everyone should be, everyone starts from a different place, and everyone excels through that journey at a different pace.
For me I think I can develop my leadership skills by being a learner through the experience of being a leader. I think different opportunities should always be learning opportunities and if you are very vigilant about soaking up and stretching yourself as much as you can you will come out with more character and skill that you could have had if you didn’t put that much effort in. -
I think the idea of leadership capacity makes a lot of sense. A person’s effectiveness leading a group relies heavily on them being confident in their task, and some people do not have the confidence for leading large groups. As for myself, I am very confident leading a small group, but doubts can seep in when I am leading a large group. I do believe that with training and mentorship I could increase my leadership capacity though.
