How have you discerned the difference between general calling and vocational calling?

General Calling – Gods calling to all believers. Our respond to the great commission for ministry.

Vocational Calling- is the higher calling for leadership . We can discern it by God giving us burden and vision. Seeing the need of the ministry by confirmation through community discernment plus through the conviction of the Holy Spirit. The fire burning in your heart. Through prayer and Bible reading, God will show us.

I think general calling is a calling of all believers.

Therefore, general calling and specific burdens on individuals, are birthed into vocational ministry through community discernment.

Thank you for that encouragement means a lot. I know I just need to keep listening to God and for what he wants me to do

I have discerned the difference between general calling and vocational calling by praying, and asking my pastor what I can do to get to my goal. A person really has to be patient with whatever they think they’re calling maybe because it may not be the same as what God wants us to have in mind. And it’s not always great to jump ahead because you may be getting into something that God doesn’t want you to do. Waiting for him to give you that next step is always what I’m waiting for.

      Thanks @Mharraway for this response.

Waiting on God for your particular call is important! I think the question is getting at the difference between the fact that all Christians are called to do the work of Christ in the world and the fact that some Christians are called “vocationally” or “professionally”. As you have walked through this course my impression is that you already know the first one, but are hoping to be involved in the second–and just need patience until that can happen.

If this is accurate, my encouragement to you is to be faithful with the little things until God grants the desires of your heart. He is faithful and will make opportunities for you to serve him in many different ways.
