Like many others, the first thing that comes to mind is a definitive statement on gender and biological sex. There are probably other issues but it seems this one is incredibly prevalent and could even provide legal protection, as I know individual church’s statements regarding sexuality have afforded them in the past.

A topic that may need to be addressed is the definition of man and woman because of the government looking to redefine these terms just as they redefined marriage.

I can’t think of anything at the moment but I think this is an important question we need to ask ourselves. Even if all cultural issues are not necessarily dealt with in the statement of faith, I think there may be issues that need to be discussed at an ACOP level. I think that the ACOP can be a great resource and place to work together to help support churches and pastors in how to navigate conversations around topics like gender, marriage, and other cultural issues that may come up.

I think with cultural and legal changes in the realms of gender identity and the LGBTQ+ communities, it may be necessary at some point to define terms. What is a man? What is a woman? Biblically we understand this, but those words, as with “marriage”, have lost some of their meaning as culture has appropriated them. We must ensure that we are led by scripture on these issues and not by culture.
