As you look at the various ways that God was at work, engaging with Franklin Small throughout his life, what does it make you think about the ways God has been at work throughout your life? Where do you see the fingerprints of God in the past events of your life? If God has been at work in you, what does this suggest about what he will do through you? Consider Philippians 1:6, and respond in a paragraph.

Reflecting on Franklin Small’s life, I see the fingerprints of God in my own journey, guiding me step by step. From pivotal moments to quiet whispers, God’s presence has shaped me. Philippians 1:6 reminds me that God, who began a good work in me, will continue to bring it to completion. This assurance encourages me to trust in His sovereignty and surrender to His plan. As God has worked in me, I believe He will use me to impact others, sharing His love and grace. I’m motivated to be open to His leading, allowing Him to shape me further, and to be a vessel for His purposes.

I always find it amazing the amount of agency God gives us as His children. He is so kind and invites us into His story and gives us so much room as we respond to Him and to His invitation. In my life I have seen countless ways that God has directed me and my steps and invited me into what He is doing. I am so grateful for His constant presence and faithfulness to me! It also scares and amazes me the freedom and space He gives me in the ways that I can partner with Him. He redeems the messes and fills the gaps and brings life out of the ashes!

What I appreciate about Frank Small’s life and ministry is his passion and dedication to see God move over the course of his life. His commitment to the spread of God’s Kingdom was not short-lived, but extended over decades of faithful ministry and obedience to the Lord’s call on his life. As someone who is still in the early stages of my life and ministry, the longevity of Small’s passion challenges me to keep my heart burning for the Gospel. Troubles will come and I will face opposition. And, like Small, I will not do it perfectly. What encourages me is that God does not look for perfect people – he looks for willing people. This is something Frank Small had in spades, and it is something I am challenged to grow in as I follow God’s call on my life.

The write up above this question speaks of “one step at a time.” I think that I have seen God at work in my life in this same way, one step at a time. I think that as you consider any of the ” heroes”of the faith, or those at least upon who shoulders we stand, we can see similar patterns of God’s work in our lives in a cumulative way, without being naive to the fact that none of us (only Jesus) ever got it all right all of the time. Considering the verses we are given to ponder, it does give me great confidence however to know that even if I make a detour, or wrong step, or a mistake, He is faithful and will complete the good work that he began and that includes redeeming mistakes, errors, or what could be considered lost time.
