What stuck out to me the most in the overview was about the spontaneous speaking in an unknown language that many believers experienced, potentially in isolation, never receiving teaching about it or having it be culturally normal, and likely only encountered through prayer and reading the Word. Knowing that as scripture says, we often do not know how to pray but through speaking in tongues the Holy Spirit intercedes in prayer, it is the providence of God to baptize people in the Holy Spirit who are not asking for it!

God is no respecter of persons he will pour out his Holy Spirit on whom he wills regardless of faith background all he needs is a hungry and seeking heart .

I think what stands out to me the most is that these were not obscure groups or people of little fame making the claims of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Rather, they were major players throughout Church history, many of whom garner respect from a wide cross-section of denominations.

It makes it clear that from Jesus telling of the coming of the Holy Spirit, to the Church Fathers, the Great Awakening and major revivals, that God’s intention is for the Body of Christ to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, past present and future.

The thing that stands out the most is the Holy Spirit is poured out when people are truly seeking God and the evidence is consistent. God remains the same yesterday, today and forever and we can count on Him to continue to pour out His Spirit as we continue to seek Him. This demonstrates God’s mission in the world is not complete and we must continue to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to reach those lost in darkness.
