Understanding the Eternal &
Temporal Realms

“…He has also set eternity in the human heart…” Eccl. 3:11

Our souls cry for the eternal realm of God. We may not believe it, but in fact, daily news broadcasts are filled with stories of an entire global community crying for eternity. The divine paradox of our times is that a creative biological miracle took place to inaugurate your life…you are ‘made on earth’. AND, as part of God’s greatest creation — humankind — you were made in his image and likeness, therefore; eternity in God calls to eternity in you.

If people don’t pray, then how do they satisfy that eternal cry and reach for God?

"I don't believe in God, but I miss him."

Reaching for Things Besides God...

"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world"

As a human being, you will always have a reach/desire for eternity (God) because we are made in his image. How are you going to satisfy that reach?

Test Yourself

What are the two realms that prayer helps bridge?

Answer

Prayer is like a bridge between the earthly and heavenly realm.

Respond to one of the following prompts in paragraph format:

    1. As you look back over the history of your life, can you think of a time (or season) in your life when you were trying to satisfy an eternal cry in a temporal way? How did the Lord help you during that time?
    2. Respond to the following statement, “You are so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good.”
