Jesus’
Threefold Office

Part One

The Prophetic Task of Proclamation

Why does it matter to me?

In the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther wanted to reaffirm to every Christian that each of us has a prophetic, priestly and royal office. These three offices or roles are derived from the threefold office of Jesus, the Anointed One: Prophet, Priest and King.

In this third video, Nikolas begins the work of grounding the pastoral role and ministry in the ministry and work of Jesus, particularly the work of prayer and proclamation.

The Prophetic Dimension

Specifically, as pastors, the prophetic dimension of our calling is:

  • To proclaim or herald the Word of God to the People of God to proclaim the truth of God into a culture that is opposed to God
  • To call people to faith and repentance – to right relationship with God
  • To centre our lives and ministry in the Word of God

This call, particularly heralding the Word, is perhaps the central act of pastoral ministry.

Our prophetic calling is one of hearing from God and speaking the Word of God.

Heidelberg clearly balanced the 3 offices and inculcated them into One calling without any deficit whatsoever.

    Some scriptures illustrating these claims are in: [1] Isaiah 9:6-7. [2] 1 Corinthians 12; 8-11. [3] 1 Peter 2; 9.

[4] Luke 4; 18, and many more scriptures in the Bible.

The structure and outline of Heidelberg is about the guilt, the Grace and the gratitude . Is about the faithful Saviour,Jesus Christ and Gods grace for salvation.

It strikes me about Gods salvation to all mankind . He believe in God, the Father almighty, restored of heaven and earth

    His belief:

    A. That I am not my own,1 but belong—body and soul, in life and in death2—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.3

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,4 and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.5 He also watches over me in such a way6 that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven;7 in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.8

Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life9 and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.10

    1 1 Cor. 6:19-20
    2 Rom. 14:7-9
    3 1 Cor. 3:23; Titus 2:14
    4 1 Pet. 1:18-19; 1 John 1:7-9; 2:2

. Three things: first, how great my sin and misery are;1 second, how I am set free from all my sins and misery;2 third, how I am to thank God for such deliverance.3

    1 Rom. 3:9-10; 1 John 1:10
    2 John 17:3; Acts 4:12; 10:43
