Are You Willing?

Self-awareness requires something of us and that can feel daunting, but it is doable.

Anyone seeking self-awareness needs to have a willingness to engage in this life-long process. Many people don’t know how they need to improve and some think they don’t need to. Wherever you are in the process, willingness is a vital step to our self-awareness and self-management.

What does willingness require of me?

^ Shortcode ^

What does growing in my faith look like?

Being open hearted and open minded is key to our attitude of willingness when seeking self-awareness. The support of others as we seek to listen well to God and be transparent helps us and keeps us motivated.

Generosity might be another way we can think of being open-hearted and open minded towards God and others — are you generous with God and others? Will you share your self?

Test yourself:

What are the four things willingness requires of us?

Heart space, head space, time, openness.

Contemplation and Listening Exercise

As you move forward with this process, seek transparency with God
Tell Jesus how you’re feeling, the things you’re excited about, things you shy away from.
Pray that Jesus will help build your trust as you follow where he leads in this experience.

Answer the questions in a paragraph:

How are you feeling about being willing to be transparent with God and with others? Does one of those seem easier than the other? Does it change your perspective if you think about it as being generous – open-hearted and open-handed?

Yes I am willing to dig as deep as necessary to be free of the lies that i have believed during my life. Through my Christian walk i have served in Prison and recovery ministries. These miniseries require you to be generous (open hearted and open handed) as well as honest and transparent, in order to gain the trust of those you are walking beside. In the inner healing process I have discovered many area in my own life that needed attention. Anger, fear and sadness to name a few. Overcoming is a process, and sometimes a slow one (Phil.1:6) One thing is for sure, I have no problem sharing with God because He already knows everything about me. He loves me and forgives me no matter what. However its been a little harder with people as they tend to judge and condemn. Learning to discern who to share with has been an ongoing process.

Martha, you are so right. Learning to discern who you can trust is an important step in becoming transparent with others. It sounds like you have come a long way toward being open with others. We pray that God will use this openness to make you the sort of person that others can easily trust!
